A lot of our patients are adults who are finally taking the time and making their dental needs a priority with Invisalign. We thought it would be a good idea to put all of the frequently asked questions about the treatment in one spot, for you.
You could call this a one stop shop for Invisalign.
This way, you can read the blog post and we’ll probably end up answering some of your main questions. Dr. James Scramstad of Align Ortho brings his expertise and experience to these answers.
The short answer to this question is no!
At Align Ortho, we’ve helped people of all ages with Orthodontic treatment. Your teeth will need to be healthy and suitable to receive treatment, but never think you’re too old to make your teeth a priority.
If you’re worried about your age or if your teeth are suitable for treatment, booking a consultation with Dr. Scramstad will answer your questions immediately.
We use the term invisible aligners when we talk about Invisalign. Align Ortho has been an Invisalign preferred provider since 2009, and have been offering the Orthodontic treatment since 2007.
Invisalign is a set of clear, custom-fabricated aligners that are used to gradually and sequentially move teeth to their desired position. There are many adults who use Invisalign to straighten their teeth without any friends or family realizing they have these clear aligners. You probably know quite a few people who have secretly fixed their teeth in adulthood with Invisalign and just didn’t tell you and you didn’t notice.
They’re that invisible!
Invisalign aligners need to be on your teeth pretty much all day, every day. To get the best results, aligners should be worn on your teeth for at least 22 hours a day. You’ll be wearing these clear trays all day, except for when you’re eating and drinking.
In terms of how long Invisalign takes, the length of treatment depends on the individual’s situation. During the consultation, Dr. James Scramstad will review your teeth and provide an estimated length of treatment.
But one important thing to remember, if you don’t wear your Invisalign for the recommended amount of time a day, you’re not going to get the perfect pearly whites that you want. The more you don’t wear them, the longer your treatment will drag on for.
This is a common question. The idea of clear aligners that form to your teeth is somehow responsible for teeth straightening sometimes leaves a patient mystified.
The virtually invisible aligners, which are made of a thermoplastic material developed for Invisalign, are customized to your mouth, to move your teeth in the sequence determined by Dr. Scramstad.
Over the course of treatment, you will be supplied with a series of these aligners. Each aligner will have a slight adjustment to the tooth position. When the aligners are placed on the teeth, they cause the teeth to do a small shimmy and the teeth gradually shift from their current position.
Easy as that. Teeth are shifting and moving into their perfect position without anyone noticing.
There are a handful of reasons to feel confident about your Invisalign treatment, not the other way around. While we understand the situation when it comes to braces and self-confidence, we know that in the long run, it will boost your self-confidence.
We even wrote a blog post about “Getting Braces or Invisalign as an adult can boost self-esteem”.
More than 4 million people worldwide have been treated with Invisalign, which means 4 million people have had their smiles and self-confidence boosted with these clear aligners.
Since Invisalign is practically invisible, the fear of being made fun of won’t happen. No one will even notice that you’re straightening your teeth. And if they do, they’ll commend you for making yourself a priority after so many years.
Yes! We wouldn’t want you missing out on your beer league sports career! We recommend anyone going through Orthodontic treatment to wear a mouthguard while playing contact sports.
With Invisalign, it’s a little easier than that because they’re removable.
You can keep your Invisalign aligners on your teeth while playing your favourite sport, but if you’re worried, simply remove them for the game. But, don’t forget to put the aligners back in after you win the match.
