In this blog post, we’ll explain what happens at a braces consultation, and give you a few questions to ask about braces, Invisalign or another treatment you may be considering.
Few people are born with perfectly straight teeth. Fortunately, there are Orthodontic treatments available to improve your smile, no matter how old you are!
Metal braces are the most common type of braces we offer at Align Orthodontics. Modern braces are comfortable and are much smaller than they used to be. They’re also flashy, and you can have the colour bands changed every visit. You can choose your favourite sports team’s colours, or make your braces festive for occasions like Christmas or Valentine’s Day! Metal braces are often the most cost-effective option, making them a popular choice for many families. However, metal braces are more noticeable, and they can’t be removed for cleaning. For many people, this is good as there is one less thing to lose or break.
Patients should also wear a mouthguard while playing sports. Additionally, there are certain foods that you will have to avoid if you choose metal braces.
Treatment time for metal braces is usually between 6 months and 2.5 years. Typically, patients wear them from 12 to 18 months.
If you're considering a discreet way to straighten your teeth, clear braces may be for you. They’re similar to metal braces but less noticeable. Clear braces are made from a translucent ceramic material and are practically invisible. This makes them a great option for adults or teenagers who want their braces to be less noticeable.
Clear braces can’t be removed, which means you will have to avoid certain types food such as red wine that can stain the clear elastics, just like you would if you have metal braces.
Invisalign for teens is an excellent option for teens who would like to straighten their teeth in a more discreet fashion. Invisalign is almost invisible, and unlike braces, can be removed.
Dr. Scramstad straightens the teeth with custom-made clear aligners that move teeth through a controlled force prescription. Aligners need to be worn 20-22 hours a day to be most effective, although the more you can wear it the better! Average treatment time is between 12-24 months.
Many adults who wish to discreetly achieve their dream smile use Invisalign adult. As with Invisalign teen, Invisalign adult is almost invisible and can be removed. This means there are no food restrictions, and you can remove it for sports.
Align Orthodontic Centre has been providing Invisalign since 2008 and is an Invisalign premier provider. This means we are a top provider in North America.
In order for Invisalign to be effective, it must be worn 20-22 hours a day. However, more is better! Full treatment time is usually 12-24 months.
As you probably know, having your dream smile is priceless. However, at Align Ortho we know paying for dental work can be difficult for families. We offer payment plans that make the cost of orthodontic work less of a burden on your monthly budget.
Usually, payments start as low as $250 a month, with a downpayment somewhere between $1,000 to $1,500. However, just as every smile is unique, there is no set price for everyone. These prices are estimates, and we can give you a more accurate price quotation after you’ve come in for your orthodontic consultation.
When you come in for your orthodontic consultation, be sure to ask if there are any discounts that may apply to you. Here at Align Orthodontics, we offer two types of discounts.
First, if you fully pay for your treatment up-front you will receive an 8% discount off your bill! Now that’s something to smile about!
Secondly, if you have more than one immediate family member coming in for dental work, your second family member will receive a discount off theirs. There is no set amount or percentage for this discount as it depends on the patient and the procedure. When you come in for your orthodontist consultation, be sure to ask our receptionist Donna if you qualify for a discount!
Dr. James Scramstad has been working at Align Ortho for over 22 years. He took over the practice from his father, Dr. Don Scramstad, who started Align Ortho in 1981. Before working with his father at Align, James went to the University of Alberta to obtain both his Bachelor of Science and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degrees. After finishing his schooling, James worked all over BC, but eventually returned to Kelowna BC. James is an active member of the Canadian Dental Association, BC College of Dental Surgeons, and Kelowna and District Dental Society
Our family has had the opportunity to work with Dr. Scramstad's for the past three years and we found the service was excellent, his advice was informative, and both of my daughter's smiles are looking great!
