Invisalign is a painless way to align the teeth into your dream smile. In this blog post, we’ll go over how Invisalign works and we’ll even give you six incredible tips for Invisalign users.
Before we break into the tips for Invisalign users, it’s important to explain how Invisalign works. The virtually invisible aligners, which are made of a thermoplastic material developed by Invisalign, are customized to your mouth, to move your teeth in the sequence determined by Dr. James Scramstad of Align Ortho.
Over the course of treatment, you will be supplied with a series of these aligners. Each aligner will have a slight adjustment to the tooth position. When the aligners are placed on the teeth, they cause the teeth to do a small shimmy and the teeth gradually shift from their current position.
Easy as that. Teeth are shifting and moving into their perfect position without anyone noticing.
When it comes to tips for Invisalign users, we could write a novel with the number of useful tips we have for Orthodontic treatment. But, we'll stick to one blog post.
Here are six tips for successful Invisalign treatment.
This tip for Invisalign users is one that gets skipped time and time again. We all know it’s important to brush our teeth, we’ve been taught that since birth. But many people ditch the floss and it’s actually negatively affecting their teeth.
When you use Invisalign aligners, they hold any gunk that’s left over after your cleaning routine. This means food debris and gunk will be stuck to your teeth until you take your aligners out again. Be sure to thoroughly clean between your teeth with floss every day. This will prevent the forming of cavities.
One of the most important things to remember is that Invisalign Aligners need to be worn at least 22 hours a day. You can take them out to eat your meals, but remember to put them back in right away.
This Invisalign tip is here because these aligners only work if you actually wear them for most of your day. If you’re not willing to wear them for at least 22 hours, you are just slowing down your progress.
If you don’t wear them for at least 22 hours, you are less likely to get fast, positive results and you will have to continue wearing them for longer than your Orthodontic treatment plan.
One of the things we hear a lot at Align Ortho is that people are worried that others will notice their aligners. We want to let you know that most people will not actually notice them. Since Invisalign aligners are clear, they’re far less noticeable than metal braces.
This tip for Invisalign users is to remind you not to be worried about smiling. Smile with your mouth open, be confident with your smile, no one will tell you’re actually working on your perfect smile.
The best way to take care of your aligners is to clean them every day. We do not recommend using toothpaste or your toothbrush to clean your aligners. This will actually scratch the plastic and it could create places for bacteria to live.
Our tip for successful Invisalign cleaning is to simply use warm water and an antibacterial soap. When you’ve taken your Invisalign aligners out to brush your teeth, that’s the perfect time to wash the aligners!
Speaking of brushing… when you have Invisalign aligners in for the amount of time you do a day, you need to brush your teeth after every meal. Align Ortho recommends in addition to this tip, to bring a travel toothbrush with you everywhere for a successful Invisalign treatment. This will make it more accessible to brush your teeth if you’re on the go.
We know it can feel weird to brush your teeth at work or school, but private bathrooms make it easier. And, who doesn’t like the feeling of freshly clean teeth? We know we do!
Just in case you break or misplace your aligners, it’s a great tip to have the last set available. While the new ones are being made, using your last set will allow your teeth to continue aligning instead of not wearing any Invisalign aligners at all and hurting your progress.
Once you get your new set, you should restart your two-week process.
Now that you’ve gotten the insider tips for a successful Invisalign treatment, it’s time to put them into practice once you’ve been fitted for your Invisalign aligners. Your happiest smile is our highest priority at Align Ortho, that’s why we created this article with the tips for wearing Invisalign.
