One question we get asked a lot is: "When do my braces come off?" After many years of research and development, we are now pleased to announce that there is a way to make braces work faster. It’s called Propel: an accelerated treatment that can reduce the length of time you need to wear braces or aligners by 30-50 percent. We use the Propel VPro , a simple device you bite on for 5 minutes per day while you are in treatment at our office.
The duration of orthodontic treatment can be influenced by many factors, but the most common factor is how quickly the bone tissue remodels to accept the new position of the teeth.
The alveolar bone is the hard tissue under the gum that supports the teeth. When you have an orthodontic treatment at Align, pressure is exerted on the teeth; this leads to bone reshaping that allows the teeth to shift position. As the teeth move, the alveolar bone regenerates around the teeth supporting them in their new position. The remodelling of bone tissue takes time, and it is this part of the process that extends the period of time you have to undergo orthodontic treatment.
Basically, Propel expedites the process of bone remodelling. The Propel device stimulates an inflammatory response that speeds the breakdown of bone tissue and subsequently accelerates the process of bone regeneration.
Using Propel is a completely safe process. According to a study published in American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Propel not only speeds the process of straightening your teeth, but it is also an "effective, comfortable, and safe procedure that accelerates tooth movement significantly."
Propel also can help with sore teeth - it has been shown to reduce dental sensitivity during orthodontic treatment. If your teeth feel tender after an adjustment or starting a new aligner, simply use the VPro for a 5-minute session and you will get some relief.
Most Invisalign patients at Dr. Scramstad’s office are using the VPro in conjunction with their aligners.
Our patients are seeing nice results and they can change their aligners at a more rapid pace.
There are many new dental technologies and exciting innovations that make dental care more effective and less intrusive.
